ADAM Ellis is due to represent King’s Lynn in both legs of the SGB Premiership play-off final – after speedway bosses made a dramatic U-turn.

The Swindon rider had been set to guest for Lynn at Poole tonight before representing Pirates in Norfolk on Wednesday.

However, he will now ride for the Stars across both legs with Nick Morris, who had always been due to ride for Pirates at Wimborne Road, now booked for the second leg as well.

The move will placate fans who had been left dismayed at the prospect of Ellis riding for two teams in the final, many having taken to social media to vent their frustrations.

Ellis had been drafted in by the Stars after Niels-Kristian Iversen suffered a crash in a benefit meeting for Tomasz Gollob at Polish track Bydgoszcz yesterday.

The changes have been approved by both clubs, the Speedway Control Bureau and the British Speedway Promoters’ Association’s management committee.

British Speedway vice-chairman Rob Godfrey said: “There was a serious risk of damaging the credibility of our sport because of guest riders switching clubs after the first leg.

“We agreed this could not be allowed to happen at a time when the sport is enjoying such a high profile with a British world champion crowned at the weekend.

“A slight amendment has been made to the regulations to allow for these line-ups and I think everybody agrees it is in the best interests of the sport.

“We now wish both Poole and King’s Lynn all the very best for what should be a really entertaining final for the fans present at each venue and those watching the superb coverage on BT Sport.”
