HAMWORTHY United’s Sydenhams League Cup second round clash at AFC Stoneham was left in darkness after floodlight failure at the HP Arena scuppered the conclusion of the contest.

Hammers had been leading 2-1 thanks to goals from Sean Wright and River Smith with around 10 minutes remaining before the tie was forced to be abandoned.

The winners of the fixture are due to visit Downton in the third round.

Wessex League chairman Ian Hoare confirmed to the Daily Echo a decision on whether the game was set to be replayed would be made at a board meeting on Monday.

Elsewhere, Poppies’ home Wessex Premier fixture against Bashley was postponed with the visitors understood to have been unable to raise a side.

Ahead of Tuesday’s clash, a statement posted on Bashley’s Twitter page said: “Bashley Football Club apologises from pulling out of tonight's game at Bournemouth.

“Matters today were outside of our control and a full letter of explanation has been sent to the Wessex League. Normal service will resume.”

League chairman Hoare said the unfulfilled fixture would also be discussed at Monday’s board meeting.

He added: “Teams are normally fined and the fixture will eventually be put back in to be played. That’s the standard procedure.”

Meanwhile, strikes from Lewis Ross, Jake King, Charlie Willett and an own goal earned Lymington a 4-1 home win over Christchurch. Ben Satterley was on target for Priory.

Nathan Gray’s 21st minute opener proved in vain as Brockenhurst were beaten 3-1 at Hamble Club.
