MATT Ford revealed how Poole star Brady Kurtz had volunteered to walk to hospital – after breaking his collarbone in a terrifying crash.

Kurtz’s season ended abruptly when he suffered a heavy fall having clipped Somerset’s Jack Holder during heat four of Monday’s SGB Premiership play-off semi-final victory over the Rebels.

Close friends away from the track, the duo were eventually dropped off at Poole Hospital by the track ambulance, Holder having also sustained a shoulder injury.

That resulted in an hour’s delay to racing, with supporters made to wait ahead of an astonishing finale in which Chris Harris secured Poole’s progress by winning heat 15 ahead of world champion Jason Doyle.

Pirates chief Ford told the Daily Echo: “I went to see Brady in the changing room after his crash. He certainly didn’t want to hold the meeting up. He even offered to walk to the hospital.

“If there is one bone to break in speedway, that is probably the easiest one to recover from.

“The injury came at a point when we were getting beaten handsomely and we both said to each other, if there was a time for this to happen, now was the time.

“But what an incredible recovery by the team.”
