EDDIE Howe watched David Brooks become Cherries’ youngest Premier League scorer before labelling him: “A goalscorer in waiting”.

At 21 years and 84 days, the attacking midfielder put his name in the history books for the Dorset club with his first strike since his £10million summer arrival from Sheffield United.

His scintillating effort set Cherries on their way to a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace – a triumph which moved them to seventh in the top flight.

And Howe tipped the Wales international to find the net on a frequent basis after showing glimpses in his first six league outings.

The Cherries boss said: “He has outstanding technical qualities and I believe he is a goalscorer in waiting. He gets in good positions, his finishing is improving and that was a big moment for him.

“It was an excellent finish and a really good team move. I am really pleased he has carried on his form, he has started really well in his time with us and the potential of his performances are huge.

“He hasn’t been overawed by the Premier League, he hasn’t been fazed at all by some of the players he is playing with or against. He has just attacked it and done his best – I think that’s a very special thing to do at such a young age.

“I am very excited by what he could be in the future.”

Brooks’s strike was cancelled out by Patrick van Aanholt’s rasping drive 10 minutes into the second half at Vitality Stadium.

But Cherries found a winner three minutes from time through Junior Stanislas’s spot-kick after Jefferson Lerma had been elbowed in the box by Mamadou Sakho.

Winger Stanislas scored his first league goal since returning from a serious knee injury sustained at Watford in March.

He now has three goals in four games for Cherries, having also fired in the Hampshire Senior Cup and Carabao Cup.

“It was a very tough moment for him,” said Howe.

“He had just come on the pitch, suddenly he was given a penalty and he was the penalty taker.

“He grabbed the ball, I could see that straight away. But without a touch in the game or feeling you are in the match, it’s not an easy thing to do to have the composure to then finish it off.

“He took it really well and it was a huge moment for the team, he would have known that as well. That will be a big moment for him.”
