EMOTIONAL Callum Brooks dedicated Hamworthy United’s 2-0 home victory over Bemerton Heath Harlequins to the memory of Ben Scott, reports Jack Tanner.

Goalkeeping coach Scott passed away last week after suffering a cardiac arrest while at work.

Hammers devoted the fixture to the coach and – along with several non-league clubs across the region – held a minute’s applause ahead of the contest.

Manager Brooks told the Daily Echo: “The result and performance from everyone at the club, senior players and staff, was for Ben.

“There’s more we want to do but, for now, all we could have done was take care of Bemerton for him.

“Ben was a different class. He gave me total support when I came to the club.

“He is responsible for forming a really strong unit of goalkeepers at the club, and regardless of results, competitions and the like, something far bigger than football has happened this week.”

Hammers opened the scoring before the interval through Jamie Filkins and Sam Bayston wrapped up three Wessex Premier points with a second late on.

Elsewhere in the division, Mickey Finch also dedicated his hat-trick for Poppies to memory of Scott.

He struck a treble at Grove Corner as the visitors cruised past Portland United 6-2.

Steve Flynn netted twice for Poppies, while there was also a goal for Harry Cooper.

Josh Kirkham’s double helped Christchurch on their way to a 4-1 triumph over Bashley at Hurn Bridge.

Scott Joyce was also on target for Priory, who saw James King open the scoring from the penalty spot. Bash’s response came through Nathan Clements.

Goals from Charlie Hennen, Sam House and Jake King earned Lymington a 3-2 triumph over Cowes Sports.

Matt Burt, Matt Casey and Mo Nyang were on target in Brockenhurst’s 3-0 win at Team Solent on Friday.

In Wessex One, Ben Cooper and Claudio Carvalho both scored for New Milton but it proved not enough as they went down 3-2 at home to Laverstock & Ford.

Verwood were beaten 2-0 at Totton & Eling, while Ringwood were thumped 5-0 at Downton.

Poppies tomorrow host Bashley in Wessex Premier, while Lymington are at home to Christchurch at the Sports Ground.

Brockenhurst travel to Hamble Club, while in the Sydenhams League Cup second round Hamworthy United make the trip to AFC Stoneham (all 7.45pm).
