WIMBORNE were thrashed 51-21 by South West One East new boys Marlborough at Leigh Park.

The visitors’ intent was clear from the off and their supporting game and skilful offloading helped them rack up a 22-0 lead.

Wimborne were finding it difficult to gain sufficient possession and despite a couple of promising runs from Jack Mason and Ashton Kerley, they were unable to capitalise.

A further score on the stroke of half-time extended to 29 points Marlborough’s lead.

It was a more even contest in the second period but nonetheless it was the Wiltshire side who crossed first.

Wimborne showed good fighting spirit when Ollie Bourton burrowed over and Kerley touched down in the corner following the hosts’ best move of the match.

Paul Roberts twice converted to reduce to 34-14 the deficit.

With the game breaking up, Marlborough scored twice in quick succession but Bourton dummied his way over for his second try.

That gave the home side hope of a losing bonus point but it was not to be and Marlborough bagged their final try in the closing minutes.

Minstermen: Booth, Morrell, Hamer, Mason, Kerley, Roberts, Bourton, Davies, Holman, Edwards, Best, Foley, Degeura, Kimber, King. Replacements: McIntosh, Adams, Christopher.

Swanage & Wareham were overpowered by Dorset Dockers as they were sunk 40-14 in Dorset & Wilts One South.

Swans made a promising start and could have had a try in the first few minutes.

And it was not long before a penalty took them into Dockers territory and following a scrum, centre Steve Woolley crossed. Phil Graves added the conversion.

Midway through the half, Dockers responded, a robust scrum helping them bulldoze over the line for a converted try.

Swans might have had another couple of scores late in the first half but the teams reached the break all square.

It was a different story in the second period and within two minutes of the restart, a brace of breakaway tries had allowed Dockers to storm into a 19-7 lead.

Two converted tries put the hosts in control, although Lee Hardy gave Swans brief hope by touching down. Woolley converted.

Dockers were not done and another breakaway try completed an emphatic victory.

Meanwhile, Swanage & Wareham II were beaten 25-19 by Dorchester II.

A much-changed New Milton side were condemned to a 17-7 defeat at Millbrook in Hampshire Premier.

Milton had a wind advantage in the first half but made numerous infringements which did not help their cause.

The hosts went into half-time 7-0 up courtesy of a push-over try.

Milton’s task became tougher after the restart when they shipped another try and were reduced to 14 men.

They gave themselves a chance when Adam Lavis made a terrific break from the base of the ruck and fed Ali Gunn to touch down. Lavis added the extras.

However, Millbrook restored their grip on proceedings when they powered through attempted tackles to score.

Milton: Booker, Wright, Frampton, Wood, Coe, Davis, Swamers, Royley, Lavis, Oliver, Gunn, N Smith, Gould, Osborn, Z Smith, Mayne, Wignall, O’Regan.
