WIMBORNE Town boss Matty Holmes is relishing the prospect of an FA Cup tie against former club Dorchester Town – and has his eyes on the prize.

Magpies will on Saturday host their Southern League South rivals in first round qualifying, with the winner banking £6,000 in prize money.

Wimborne had a crowd of more than 500 for their 4-2 league loss to Dorchester last month, while more than 900 supporters turned out for the 4-0 defeat to Poole Town.

Holmes told the Daily Echo: “When you look at our attendances this season, they have flown above expectations.

“It’s a vibrant club at the moment and, hopefully, it will be a bumper crowd and we can get the result and the prize money.

“There is a lot at stake and I’m sure people will come to watch.

“I’m quite excited by the tie. Sometimes you think you would rather play someone from a lower league to try to get through, although that hasn’t been our forte until this season.

“The lads are desperate to make amends for the league result and to try to get through in the cup.”

Former West Ham star Holmes spent four seasons at Dorchester and helped the county town side seal the 2002-03 Southern League Eastern Division title.

He said: “Dorchester was a great club for me to be with at the end of my career and I enjoyed every minute of it.

“I saw the kit man, who I have known for years, the other week when we lost 4-2. I know Matt Lucas (chairman) very well. They are a wonderful football club.”

Luke Holmes and Paddy Hester remain sidelined but Magpies have no fresh injury worries.

Elsewhere in first round qualifying, Lymington Town host Hellenic Premier side Lydney Town at the Sports Ground (3pm).
