PROMOTER Matt Ford believes Pirates’ SGB Premiership play-off semi-final against Somerset could go to the wire.

The final league placings were all but decided following Wednesday’s fixtures, with King’s Lynn top of the pile ahead of Somerset, Poole and Belle Vue.

Pirates ended their regular-season campaign with a convincing 55-35 win over Wolverhampton and will face the Rebels in a two-legged semi-final.

The first leg will be staged at Somerset’s Oaktree Arena on Monday, September 17, with the return leg at Wimborne Road on Monday, October 1.

Ford said: “Our league meetings against Somerset this season have largely been tight affairs both home and away, so I really don’t think the bookies can split the two teams.

“Both sides have talent in abundance and some gritty, determined characters, so out of the two semi-finals, I think ours will be the closest call.

“But the performance against Wolves was a good way to finish our league campaign and I feel confident going into the play-offs.”

King’s Lynn opted to face Belle Vue in the other semi and will travel to the National Speedway Stadium on September 24 before hosting the return a week later.
