BOSS Callum Brooks believes Hamworthy United have already "exceeded expectations" in the FA Cup but is desperate to see them continue their run.

Hammers booked a first qualifying round date with Sholing after pulling off an upset by dumping out Southern League AFC Totton in the preliminary round.

The Sydenhams Wessex Premier rivals will on Saturday face off at Sholing's Universal Stadium with £6,000 in prize money up for grabs for the victors (3pm).

Hammers will be looking to equal their best run in the competition by reaching the second qualifying round for the first time in five years.

The Boatmen, who currently top Wessex Premier, have won seven of their eight league and cup games this season – all of which have been played away from home.

Brooks has presided over five successive wins for Hammers, including a dramatic 3-2 victory over Team Solent in the extra preliminary round last month.

He said: “I don’t feel the club will see it as the most desirable draw. The people who run the club probably wanted a higher-ranked team from a league or two above to get a few through the gate or more publicity.

“But, from our point of view, the draw is out of our control. We will approach it like any other game, knowing we have a good chance of getting a positive result.

“The FA Cup is nice. We have already exceeded expectations and have gone one game further than most people expected so anything is a bonus at this stage.

“That said, we have a hungry group of players, they want to win football games and long may that spirit continue.”

The teams will definitely meet again next week – either in a replay at the Specsavers County Ground or in a league fixture at the Universal Stadium.

But the double-header is of little significance to Brooks: “I don’t think it makes much of a difference. All you can do in football is take each game as it comes.

"We will go full out to win the game on Saturday and then look at the game on Tuesday by its own merits.

“Both sides know what is coming up on Tuesday but it’s the same for both of us. There is a big cup game at stake and then three league points. Hopefully, they will both be in our favour come next Wednesday morning!”

Also in the first qualifying round, Lymington Town host Hellenic Premier League Lydney Town at the Sports Ground (3pm).
