PIRATES confirmed oil spilled on the Wimborne Road track following the victory over King’s Lynn had been cleaned up.

Stars number one Robert Lambert brought the spillage to the attention of the wider public when he tweeted a picture of the circuit on Wednesday night.

The picture was accompanied by the words: “So anyway we need to spend so much money on bikes and new rules with having oil catchers and they put a can of oil on the track. What a disgrace to British speedway. Thanks @poolespeedway.”

Pirates later gave a Twitter statement of their own, which read: "The club can confirm that an oil spillage on the track after the meeting has been cleaned up and disposed of according to environmental standards.”

And promoter Matt Ford added: “My sincere gratitude to JG Environmental, who acted immediately to resolve the spillage.

“I can’t thank John Haines and his team enough for correcting and disposing of the waste in the correct fashion.”

The Stars’ Niels-Kristian Iversen was also critical of the track, describing as “disgraceful” its condition.

However, he insisted he did not want to “take anything away” from the home riders, who had secured a 61-29 victory.
