DORSET star Georgia Hall’s flawless start put her in contention after the first round of the Women’s British Open.
The Wimborne-based professional signed for a bogey-free 67 on day one of competition at Royal Lytham & St Annes.
Playing alongside world number one Ariya Jutanugarn and South Korea’s In Gee Chun, Hall got off to a blistering start with a birdie two at the first hole.
The 22-year-old continued her blemish-free front nine by picking up another shot at the par five sixth, meaning she made the turn in 33.
A string of three straight birdies from the 13th to 15th earned the former Canford Kid a brief stint at the top of the leaderboard at five under.
Hall is bidding to become the first English winner of the event since Karen Stupples in 2004.
At last week’s Gary Player invitational, she played with American Tom Lehman, who won the 1996 Open Championship at the same venue.
Ranked 39th in the world, Hall is tomorrow set to begin her second round alongside the same playing partners at 7.14am.
