STRIKER Sam Surridge’s second-half goal proved in vain as Cherries’ under-21s fell to a 3-1 defeat to their Leicester City counterparts.

The 19-year-old hitman levelled the pre-season friendly at 1-1 for Carl Fletcher’s men five minutes into the second half at the Foxes’ training ground.

But, having taken an early lead through Bartosz Kapustka, the hosts went on to triumph thanks to goals from George Thomas and Connor Tee.

Surridge, who netted a double in the under-21s’ 6-0 win at Southern League Weymouth earlier this month, spent last season on loan at League Two Yeovil.

He struck 10 times across 53 appearances in all competitions for the Glovers.

Meanwhile, Cherries under-18s recorded a goalless draw in their friendly with the Foxes.

Manager Alan Connell told the club website: “It was a positive performance, a step in the right direction and definitely something to build on as we carry on our tough pre-season.

“There are still lessons to be learned - the biggest one being that, if you give the ball away against a good side, you’ll not see it again for a while.

“The players are getting up to speed now and the fitness is coming on, so it’s been pleasing so far, integrating the new players with the players already here, which is vital."
