HOPEFUL Matt Ford believes rising star Frederik Jakobsen could be the missing link to ignite Pirates’ season.

Jakobsen replaced struggling Mateusz Szczepaniak in the one-to-seven last week and is tomorrow due to make his Poole debut in the SGB Premiership clash with Belle Vue (7.30pm).

The 20-year-old impressed for Denmark during the Speedway of Nations and racked up an 11-point haul in the opening round of the Under-21 World Championship at Latvian circuit Daugavpils.

Ford told the club website: “Frederik is something of an unknown quantity on these shores, having only raced a small number of times on British tracks.

“But he is without question the hottest young asset in Danish speedway and I believe he will give us something extra at reserve for the rest of the season.

“He looked superb around the Poole shale during press and practice and I know the supporters were intrigued to know more about him.

“Now they can see him for real and I’m sure they will see what I saw when I first saw him race several years ago.”

Poole will soon have an all-Danish pairing at reserve when Nicolai Klindt returns to the fold.

Klindt, another recent signing, has racing commitments in his homeland tomorrow.
