ON-LOAN Cherries striker Joe Quigley made his first start for Republic of Ireland under-21s in their 3-1 win over Iceland.

The 21-year-old impressed in the friendly in Dublin, featuring for 68 minutes before being replaced by Ronan Hale.

Quigley, who is on loan at National League outfit Boreham Wood, will hope to keep his place for Tuesday’s Under-21 European Championship qualifier against Azerbaijan.

Ireland are third in Group Five with three wins from their opening five matches.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Mark Travers kept a clean sheet during Ireland under-19s’ 3-0 triumph over Kosovo.

The young stopper, part of the under-21 squad at Vitality Stadium, helped his side kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the Under-19 European Championship.

Travers also played a full game as Ireland drew 1-1 with Slovakia in an elite round encounter on Wednesday and could be involved in Tuesday's showdown with Portugal.

Elsewhere, Lewis Cook and Nathan Ake were unused substitutes for their respective nations during England’s 1-0 win over the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Friday.

Winger Ryan Fraser did not come on during Scotland’s 1-0 home defeat to Costa Rica. Lys Mousset was also consigned to a bench role in France under-21s’ 3-0 victory over Kazakhstan.
