POOLE will have to rely on other teams’ performances as well as their own if they are to retain their Dorset Novice League title later this month.

The Poole Black team’s round two victory at Weymouth was enough to earn them a place in the eight-team final at Littledown.

But their sixth place in round one in January means they still have only seven league points, four fewer than leaders Weymouth and second placed Tornadoes of South Dorset.

Double points for the March 24 final gives Poole a fighting chance of the title but they will need other teams to come between them and the leading clubs.

Those other teams will include Seagulls, who have eight league points, but not Poole Yellow, whose fifth place at Weymouth means consigns them to a four-team B final at Dorchester.
