ASMIR Begovic tipped a trio of Cherries stars to have chances of representing England at the World Cup.

The Cherries stopper himself missed out on qualification for Russia 2018 after his native Bosnia finished third in their qualifying group.

But Begovic sees no reason why the likes of Lewis Cook, Callum Wilson or Jordon Ibe could not stake their claims for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad.

He told the Daily Echo: “I think we have a few guys who could make a late charge, I don’t see why not.

“There’s a few of the boys - Lewis Cook, Jordon Ibe and Callum Wilson are playing really well, so I don’t see why they couldn’t challenge for a place.

“If they are playing well and doing their thing on the pitch then I hope they get considered.”

Cherries are yet to have a player represent England while featuring for the Dorset club.

Jermain Defoe's 57 senior caps for the Three Lions came before he joined Eddie Howe’s men.

Cook, Wilson and Ibe have all represented their country at under-21 level.

Former Coventry man Wilson was under consideration for Roy Hodgson’s squad in 2015 before a serious knee injury initially scuppered his chances.

The winning captain of the under-20 World Cup last summer, midfielder Cook was included in the senior squad for a friendly against Brazil in November but did not feature.

Ibe, who is also eligible to represent Nigeria, pledged his allegiance to England as a teenager during his time with Liverpool.

Commenting further on Ibe, Begovic added: “From the first day I walked in here I saw a great talent.

“For any young player it’s trying to find that level of consistency and put performances together on a weekly basis, that’s what he is doing now and it’s pleasing to see.”
