VERWOOD Town Ladies have launched a recruitment drive – after maternity leave and injury decimated their squad.

The club has had a disappointing first half of the season and is currently bottom of Division One of the Dorset Women's League.

Their solitary victory was a resounding 6-1 triumph over Blandford United Youth last month.

However, they have also been on the receiving end of some heavy defeats.

Leading goalscorer Karla Jordan, who has netted five times, said: “We have experienced a difficult season for lots of reasons including losing some good players due to maternity leave and injury.

"Women’s football is sometimes tricky as players have to juggle managing their families with career pressures. We would welcome interest from new players.

"We are extremely grateful to Altogether Care for sponsoring our home kit and have also received great support from Minster Partnership for our away kit."

New assistant manager Sally Chalk hopes to attract new players to bolster their squad and promote women’s football within the community.
