A SUBLIME hat-trick from striker Callum Wilson helped 10-man Cherries to a 4-0 triumph over Huddersfield Town.

A first-half double from the striker put Eddie Howe’s men in the box seat at Vitality Stadium before skipper Simon Francis was dismissed moments before the interval for a second booking.

But the hosts found a third through midfielder Harry Arter and Wilson wrapped up the victory with his third six minutes from time.

Cherries were unchanged from the starting XI which secured a last-gasp 1-0 victory over Newcastle before the international break but there was no Jermain Defoe in the match day squad.

Joshua King overcame a back problem to be able to feature and striker Benik Afobe was named on the bench after recovering from a muscular injury picked up against Chelsea.

Visiting Huddersfield made two changes to their starting XI.

Christopher Schindler’s suspension meant former Cherries loanee Martin Cranie made his first Premier League start since 2007.

Midfielder Danny Willams came in to replace Jonathan Hogg, who was left out as his wife gave birth on Friday evening.

And it was the visitors who fashioned the first chance of the contest on nine minutes.

A cross from the left was only half cleared by Cherries, allowing Tom Ince to set the ball back for Rajiv van La Parra, who worked Asmir Begovic with a low strike from the edge of the box.

Two minutes later, Town’s Scott Malone, formerly of Cherries, then squandered a golden chance to open the scoring.

He beat his man and ran in on goal, only to see his strike fall wide of the far post.

Cherries then looked to respond when a home corner fell into the path of Arter, who failed to keep his shot down.

Joshua King then latched on to a ball from deep and, after spinning away from his defender inside the box, he found strike partner Wilson, whose strike deflected wide.

The game’s first talking point then occurred midway through the first half when Charlie Daniels went in strongly on Town full-back Florent Hadergjonaj.

Referee Lee Probert waved play on and the hosts forced a corner. From which, Howe’s men went ahead on 26 minutes.

A menacing delivery from Jordon Ibe was met by Wilson, who headed home his first Premier League goal since January to give his side the advantage.

And four minutes later, Wilson, whose first goals for Cherries came against the Terriers in August 2014, netted his second.

A free-kick from the left played in by Surman found the 25-year-old, who applied a confident finish to make it 2-0.

With Huddersfield still pushing men forward, Cherries then showed their threat on the counter.

A classy breakaway saw Marc Pugh pick the ball up out wide and he fed Charlie Daniels.

The full-back’s low cross then found Surman, whose fierce effort was turned over the bar by Town keeper Jonas Lossl.

The hosts were then forced into an early change as Ibe, who appeared to be struggling with injury, was replaced by Adam Smith just before the interval. And boss Howe’s plans were rocked even further on the stroke of half time as the Dorset club were reduced to 10 men.

A mistimed challenge from Francis, who had already been cautioned, sent van La Parra sprawling and the Cherries skipper was given a second booking.

Following the break, the contest continued to be centred on referee Probert.

He gave no caution to Wilson after he collided with midfielder Aaron Mooy, with the Australian going down clutching his face.

Minutes later, the man in the middle waved away protests from the visitors, who claimed Nathan Ake had handled in Cherries’ box.

A man light, Cherries were forced to dig in as the Terriers piled men forward.

A sublime block from Smith thwarted a fierce shot from Ince, as the hosts began to drop deeper.

But when Howe’s men got the chance to attack, they made it count through midfielder Arter.

He dispossessed Malone in a dangerous area, and after running at goal, smashed the ball home to give his side a third.

And the contest was wrapped up six minutes from time when King’s neat work found Wilson, who rifled home to seal his hat-trick and Cherries' fourth.

The result put Howe's men 13th in the Premier League table.
