KATIE Holt competed against the best players in England at the Cadet Girls’ National Cup.
The 13-year-old Brockenhurst player was invited to the tournament in Bristol because of her position near the top of the Table Tennis England rankings and took on the nine other players in a round-robin format.
Seeded ninth for the event, she won two matches and finished ninth, securing a 4-2 victory over fourth seed Gauri Duhan and a 4-1 win over 10th-ranked Jemma Walker in the process. She also lost 4-3 in two matches against higher-ranked players.
Holt, who attends Bournemouth School for Girls, said: “I was ninth seed so I didn’t have much pressure on me and everybody else was very good.
“I definitely wanted to beat the player below me and anything else was a bonus, so I guess I’ve had a bonus!”
