BOSS Adie Arnold watched Christchurch take another step towards league survival before declaring: The players deserve all the credit.

A goal in each half from Jack Lovell and Nathan Saxby handed Priory a 2-0 win over visitors Bemerton, managed by former Christchurch boss Graham Kemp.

Victory made it seven points out of nine for Arnold's men in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier and secured a second triumph in four days following last week's win over Andover.

Christchurch are now four points clear of second-bottom Fareham ahead of tomorrow's trip to Bournemouth Poppies.

Arnold told the Daily Echo: "The players deserve all the credit as the last two results were down to them. They kept the belief up in the dressing room.

"Wednesday was a massive game for us after the results of Tuesday night and we put in a great performance which showed a lot of character.

"It was important we didn't undo all that hard work on Saturday. We had to stand up and be counted and we did that.

"We have got ourselves in a good position but we still have a lot of work in front of us and, hopefully, we can finish the job.

"We aren't out of it, we've just had two good team performances."

Lovell put Christchurch ahead midway through the first half courtesy of a crisp strike from 18 yards that zipped into the bottom-left corner.

The lead was doubled in the second half when good pressure from Colin Dand resulted in a back-pass to the goalkeeper, whose clearance only found Saxby. Despite being some 25 yards from goal, Saxby expertly sent the ball into the net.

Dan Taylor will come into the Christchurch squad for the clash with Poppies (3pm), who grabbed a 1-1 draw at AFC Portchester on Saturday thanks to Dan Molyneaux's equaliser.

Priory: Tong, Cullen, Grace, Dand, Swindlehurst, Saul (Vining, 80) Martin Smith, Mark Smith, Fairbrother (Cunniffe-Pilley, 70), Lovell, Saxby. Unused subs: Glatzel, Goodship, Banfield, Fawcett.

Morgan Turner, Sam Carter and Anthony Harris were on target for New Milton in their 3-0 win at Laverstock & Ford in Wessex One. New Milton travel to Hythe & Dibden tomorrow (3pm).

Ringwood Town drew 1-1 at home to Downton and are next in action at home to Team Solent on Tuesday (7.45pm).
