HAMWORTHY United cruised to a 4-0 Wessex Premier victory over visitors Christchurch as boss Graham Kemp tasted success against his former club.

Skipper Aaron Corby put the Hammers in front in the ninth minute after Russell Cook’s header was cleared off the line.

Alex Martin doubled the lead when he dinked over keeper Ben Field midway through the first period.

The 17-year-old added a third seconds into stoppage time, sending home a bullet header from Dom Allen’s right-wing cross.

Substitute Bradley Miles made it 4-0 in the 81st minute as he tapped into an empty net following Cook’s square pass.

The visitors’ only presentable opportunity came with moments left, but substitute Sam Carter was denied by a low stop from Dan Ackerman.

Prior to that, the 16-year-old Field had distinguished himself with several fine saves at the other end.

Hamworthy boss Kemp was delighted to secure three points in emphatic fashion.

He told the Daily Echo: “It was a local derby with added spice that everyone knows about, but hopefully that’s died a death now.

“They had a lot of the ball but we kept our shape and restricted them to one chance a few minutes from the end.

“The first quarter of an hour was nip and tuck, but the first two times we ventured into their half we scored, which knocked the stuffing out of them.

“The third goal on the stroke of half-time killed the game as a contest.

“Alex is going to get the plaudits and he is a good prospect. He’s shown again what he can do.”

Priory assistant boss Bob Sullivan admitted a lack of cutting edge had let down his side.

He said: “We played some decent football but there was no end product.

“You can play as much football as you like but if you don’t score at the end of it, it’s pointless.

“We can’t argue with the result.”
