TEENAGER Luke Anderson was crowned best Wessex boxer of the night at the club’s Dinner Show held at the Marriott Hotel in West Cliff earlier this month.
The 14-year-old impressed Wessex Amateur Boxing Club judges with a comfortable points victory over Harry Cookson (Moneyfields ABC).
Anderson displayed great skill and movement to earn a unanimous verdict against his Hampshire-based opponent.
He was also awarded the Scott Wilks Trophy in memory of a former Wessex ABC boxer. Scott’s dad Alfie presented Anderson with the new cup which will be awarded each year.
The only other Wessex ABC junior taking part was 11-year-old Jack Holmes who fought Joe Robertson (Intense ABC) in a skills-only contest.
Four senior Wessex ABC boxers also took part in the 14-bout event.
Heavyweight Lee Park outpointed Lee Chedwick (Small Holding ABC), while battling Lucas Campion, in the ‘bout of the night’, just lost out to Scott Martin (Cooper Boys ABC) on points.
Unlucky Tom Cripps was on the wrong end of a controversial split-decision result against Plymouth-based Simon Sears (Intense ABC).
Female boxer Kerry Brown, meanwhile, lost a closely-fought encounter with Tamar ABC’s Heidi Redman.
The popular event attracted 100-seated diners and further 250 standing spectators.
