POOLE Town wide man Luke Burbidge could be on the verge of a dramatic U-turn after confirming he is in talks over a move to Weymouth.

Dolphins had announced that Burbidge, 21, was contracted to the club for next season but both the player and boss Tom Killick today confirmed that a deal was agreed – but had not been signed.

That has paved the way for Terras manager Brendon King to swoop for a second Poole favourite having already secured the services of last season’s captain Michael Walker over the summer.

And Burbidge, who made 50 appearances in a variety of positions last term, said Walker’s influence could have a bearing on his decision.

When asked about his future, Burbidge told the Daily Echo: “I am talking to Weymouth and I have had an offer. I am definitely considering my future because I know a number of lads there.

“I spoke to Tommy (Killick) about signing a deal. He asked me to sign a contract but I always made it clear I wanted to be non-contract for personal reasons and I will stay non-contract wherever I end up.

“I was more than happy to stay at Poole at the time because they are an outstanding club and have a number of good players, but Weymouth is a massive club.

“Michael Walker is a quality player and a big leader and, if I do end up going, he will be a big part of the reasons why.”

Meanwhile, Killick added: “Luke had agreed a deal to re-sign but it didn’t get signed and, in theory, he is free to sign for anyone. It has come out of the blue and I am hoping he will stay but, if it comes down to finances, we are clearly not in a position to compete with Weymouth.”
