NEW Milton trounced Lymington to lift the New Forest President's Cup on Friday - but both teams suffered hangovers with defeats in Saturday's Southern League matches.

Milton put out-of-sorts Lymo to the sword by registering a crushing eight-wicket win, although their joy was short-lived as they slumped to a heavy defeat at Hook & Newnham Basics in Division One.

The hosts made a mockery of Milton's recent good form, restricting them to 186 for nine before trumping that total for the loss of one wicket.

And it got no better for Lymington who plunged to a third successive defeat against an improving Hampshire Academy side at the Sports Ground.

The story was all too familiar for the hosts with a below-par batting performance the catalyst for their downfall.

Lymington eventually posted 197 all-out, but needed decent form from their lower order to post anything like a challenging target.

Openers Glyn Treagus (4) and Aussie Scott Henry (7) fell cheaply, leaving Damian Edwards (40) to rebuild the innings before Darren Cowley (26) and Matt Metcalfe (28) gave him a helping hand.

But three wickets each for Tom Barber (3-37) and Miles Covers (3-39) saw the relative promise of 146 for four become 155 for nine, and it was left to debutant Kieran Moors (23) and Ed Freeman (17*) to carry the fight.

The duo stuck around for a final fling of 44 for the last wicket to at least give Lymington's bowlers something to aim at.

And although Metcalfe (2-52) struck twice with the early wickets of Oliver Green (11) and Jack Mynott (14), the success of the Academy's mission was rarely in doubt once Wilf Marriott (56) had got their reply up and running.

Alongside Lewis McManus (31), Marriott took the Young Royals to 111 before the pair fell to the off-spin of Treagus (2-57).

Julian Parvess (25) then struck some timely middle-order blows before skipper Michael Porter (35*), who continued to bat far lower than he would prefer, guided Academy across the winning line.
