POOLE got off to a flying start in the Dorset Novice League despite major traffic problems on the way to the venue in Dorchester.
A third of the team and coach Jan Hutchings arrived late due to a road closure on the A35.
βIt was not the best preparation especially after asking the swimmers to arrive early,β said Hutchings.
Despite the setback, Poole finished 15 points ahead of nearest challengers West Dorset and are just two gala points behind leaders Weymouth in the league table after round one.
Christchurch Seagulls are third in the table after winning their first round fixture by 10 points from Swim Bournemouth.
