Thousands of runners laced up their trainers and pinned down their race numbers for the fifth annual Bournemouth Marathon Festival at the weekend.

After occasional rain shower eased grey clouds remained, but hundreds still took part in the first ever Kids Kilometre event at the festival, before the 1.5k, 2k and 5k youth races, which launched the festival on Saturday.

Crowds turned out in force to cheer on the Supersonic 10k runners on Saturday afternoon.

The event was followed by the Supernova 5k which saw runners of all ages wear fluorescent clothing, head torches and anything that glows as they raced along the seafront at dusk.

The half marathon and marathon took place on Sunday.

The thousands of participants included Steve Edwards who was taking part in his 799th marathon.

Steve, who completed his first marathon in 1981, is aiming to run 1,000 marathons and recorded the fastest ever average time across the events.

Runners dressed in a variety of costumes and famous faces including Disney animation Aladdin's Genie, Spider-Man and even Donald Trump.
