A FAMILY-themed day marks the third and final instalment of Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s Proms in the Park.

The concert, which promises ‘something for everyone’, features performances of well-known works by composers such as Wagner, Mahler and Elgar, followed by classics by Elton John, Sting, and Coldplay with the Inspiration Choir.

Earlier this afternoon, the audience were treated to a unique composition by the BSO Family Orchestra, an ensemble featuring musicians of all ages.

Participation Administrator Ben Jennings told the audience the orchestra started in 2015 as part of an open day project.

“We create brand new pieces from scratch in a warm, community environment,” he said.

The orchestra played a two-movement work called The Wonder of Water, inspired by the idea of a flowing river.

The theme of participation featured throughout the afternoon, with workshops from SoundStorm.

The music education agency got families involved with some African drumming and samba music.
