Waitrose is recalling some of its products due to the fact they may contain raw, uncooked prawns.

The supermarket is recalling its Frozen Cooked & Peeled Jumbo King Prawns and Essential Frozen Cooked King Prawns.

This recall impacts packs of Frozen Cooked & Peeled Jumbo King Prawns with all date codes up to and including February 2024.

Meanwhile packs of Essential Frozen Cooked King Prawns include date codes up to and including June 2023.

A statement from the Food Standards Agency (FSA) confirmed the recall and warned customers not to eat the product.

On their website page for the recall they said: "The possible presence of raw, uncooked prawns makes this product unsafe to eat.

"If you have bought any of the above products do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund."

What is a product recall?

If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product).

The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.

In some cases, a 'Food Alert for Action' is issued.

This provides local authorities with details of specific actions to be taken on behalf of consumers.
