The Prime Minister had a birthday party at Number 10 during the first lockdown in 2020, it has been reported.

ITV News says it understands that the gathering, allegedly organised by the Boris Johnson's wife, Carrie Johnson, saw up to 30 people in attendance.

One guest at the surprise get-together is said to have been interior designer, Lulu Lytle. Ms Lytle is not a member of No 10 staff but was at the time renovating Boris Johnson’s flat in Downing Street.

It has been reported the event took place on the afternoon of June 19 shortly after 2pm.

Just nine days earlier, the Prime Minister had urged people to “continue to show restraint” and “respect the rules” during a Downing Street press conference.

Disputing the report, a No 10 spokeswoman said: “A group of staff working in No 10 that day gathered briefly in the Cabinet Room after a meeting to wish the Prime Minister a happy birthday. He was there for less than ten minutes.”

Later that evening, ITV News said in its report family friends were hosted upstairs in the Prime Minister’s flat.

“This is totally untrue. In line with the rules at the time, the Prime Minister hosted a small number of family members outside that evening,” the No 10 spokeswoman added.
