The Crown star Emma Corrin has landed the lead role in the upcoming FX crime-drama series Retreat.

She will play detective Darby Hart, with the show being billed as a "Gen Z take on the role of the wannabe sleuth" according to the Radio Times.

The premise of the show sees Darby as one of 12 guests taking part in a glamorous retreat after being invited by a billionaire recluse.

However, after one of them turns up dead Darby jumps on the case to solve the murder.

Linus Roache and Gina McKee will star alongside Corrin, with writer/director Brit Marling also playing a key role opposite the 25-year-old in the series.

At the moment in time a UK broadcaster is not attached to show the programme.

FX chief John Landgraf said: “We absolutely loved what Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij came to us with, which is radical reconceptualisation of whodunit with a really, really original set of characters, particularly a really strong and original young woman at the centre of the story whose back story and present-day story form a strong emotional core.

"There obviously is a mystery unfold too. It’s a distinctive and unique show that is not that easy to produce.”

In the near future Corrin will also be appearing in the film My Policeman alongside Harry Styles, and a Netflix adaptation of Lady Chatterley's Lover.
