Great British Bake Off returned for the second episode of the 2021 series this week with one baker winning the star baker accolade and another leaving the show.

Each week amateur bakers take part in cake challenges where they attempt to pull off signature, technical and showstopper bakes.

Every episode is a combination of a baking week and this week on the show was biscuit week.

Who was star baker for biscuit week?

Last week we saw Jürgen, a 56-year-old IT professional from Sussex who moved over from Germany 18 years ago, crowned as star baker and this week he impressed the judges again, meaning he won star baker in week two as well.

Biscuit week was another success with Jürgen pulling off filled ginger snaps as the signature bake and jam biscuits as the technical challenge.

At the end of the show, he and the other bakers created interactive toys with biscuits for the showstopper challenge.

The GBBO Twitter account tweeted a snippet of Jürgen’s biscuit week, writing: “The art. The science. The precision. Here’s how Jürgen baked his way to the top during Biscuit Week. #GBBO”

Who left Great British Bake Off in the second episode?

Unfortunately another episode of GBBO meant another contestant had to leave.

This week it was Jairzeno’s turn to say goodbye to the Bake Off tent.

The 51-year-old head of finance in London who moved to the UK from Trinidad 15 years ago has left the show and will not take part in any further challenges.

The programme’s Twitter account tweeted a letter from Jairzeno, writing: ““Mistakes will always happen, I laughed at mine – you will laugh at yours too” Here’s Jairzeno’s lovely letter of encouragement to all you Bake Off fans. #GBBO”

Great British Bake Off will continue to air on channel 4 on Tuesdays at 8pm.
