A ROMAN legion marched by as chariots thundered through the streets - Wimborne Minster looked more like a scene from two millennia ago as opposed to a summer’s morning in 1979.
The thronging crowd was kept amused by impressionist Lenny Henry and ventriloquist Keith Harris. The pair had been in shows at The Pavillion Theatre and Ballroom.
The charioting champions came in the form of the Horns Inn and were honoured with laurel wreaths. The win that day, on June 30, marked the second year straight in which they tasted victory.
Last placed Wimborne Youth Aid and Action Group made up for their shortcomings by pleasing the swelling mobs with their best-made chariot and best-dressed charioteers.
The Rotaract Club raised £100 for the coffers of Wimborne Opportunity Playgroup.
