TELEVISION personality Peter Clark opened the Homefield School and College open day and fete, forty years ago in July 1979. The school at the time was raising the two thousand pounds to help equip the new gym which was opened earlier in the same year. The Homefield School Parents, Staff and Friends Association put together a full programme of events including the band of the Junior leaders regiment from Bovington and the college's own army cadet unit put on a display of prowess in a military style gymnastics display. This was followed by pupils putting together a routine which combined gymnastics with comedy in a Bring on the Clowns act, under the watchful eye of PE master Sidney Miles.
Visitors to the fete took part in the Welly throwing competition and pram race followed a concert performed by the Junior Orchestra and choir. Along with the fun of the fete three members of the school's ACF detachment, Robert Perrett, Anthony Marshall and John Smith, received Royal Hampshire Regiment medals from Lieut-col. Gerry Canipel.
