HERE'S a wartime picture harking back to the days when RAF Warmwell was used as a fighter station.
It is being shared in honour of a the unveiling of a granite airfield memorial at Silverlake, a community of luxury sustainable holiday homes at Warmwell near Dorchester, on the site of the former RAF base.
Veterans attended a special ceremony in honour of the unveiling.
This memorial is to commemorate this famous Battle of Britain station and was be erected by the Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust (ABCT), the world’s first national airfield charity, which by the end of 2018 will have installed almost 200 memorials to honour disused airfields across the UK since ABCT formed in 2006.
Britain’s airfields are becoming increasingly recognised as our greatest ever physical assets and Warmwell continues to be an evocative and highly relevant place.
