THE stunning professional concert series run at Canford continues into 2018 with a number of events showcasing performers of the highest quality in the country.

Opening the 2018 season will be renowned soprano Julia Doyle who returns to Canford for the second year on Tuesday January 19.

Accompanied by lutenist Matthew Wadsworth, she will perform some of the most charming lute songs of the Renaissance period at the venue, which forms part of Canford School in Canford Magna.

Julia and Matthew have recently recorded a CD of their music and this concert offers an opportunity to hear the pieces in the excellent acoustic of Canford’s concert hall.

Among the range of top quality musicians who have visited in recent years, the annual residency with the Britten Sinfonia has been a particular highlight.

The second concert of the 2018 season will see this accomplished ensemble once again bringing one of their acclaimed Chamber music concerts to Canford.

Principal violin, Jacqueline Shave, will be joined by the Sinfonia’s principal ‘cellist, Caroline Dearnley and accomplished pianist, Huw Watkins. Their concert on Wednesday February 7 will feature piano trios by Mozart, Philip Glass and Arvo Part.

In previous concerts audiences have enjoyed some of the best chamber music playing in the country. This concert will first have been given in the Wigmore Hall in London.

Concert tickets are very competitively priced at just £14/10, there will be a pre-concert bar with drinks allowed in the auditorium, and each concert will last for just an hour without an interval.

Booking links and a full programme of all school concert events, all of which members of the public are welcome to attend, can be found at the new-look concert page, canford.com/Music-Concerts.

Christopher Sparkhall, Director of Music, said: “What better way to lift spirits out of the January/February blues than by listening to some truly inspirational music from some of the country’s top class professionals, performed in a relaxed setting?

“Members of the public are welcome at all our major concerts throughout the year, and both these professional events are sure to be very memorable evenings for anyone with a love of music.”
