The family of a murdered man have put up £10,000 of their own money in the hope someone with information will come forward.

A total reward of £20,000 is on offer to anyone who has information about the murder of Geoffrey Windsor, who was beaten to death almost a year ago on June 26, 2002 at 1.52am.

Geoffrey Windsor’s body was found in Beaulieu Heights Park, South Norwood Hill, a notorious gay cruising area.

Detective Inspector Wagstaff, who is leading the investigation, said: “They are not a wealthy family but the amount of money they have offered shows how desperately they need closure.” Despite the amount of time since his death, police are certain members of the public have vital information that could help lead to an arrest.

DI Wagstaff said: “We are certain that people saw Geoffrey on the night of his murder, and talked to him.

“We know there are people out there who have information. I would urge them to come forward.

“I would like to reassure anyone with information that we will act sensitively to their needs and in the strictest confidence. We are only interested in investigating the murder and nothing else.

“We can arrange for you to meet a third party, talk to a gay officer, and we do not have to come to your home address.” Mobile incident rooms will be stationed at Beaulieu Heights Park as part of the anniversary appeal from June 26.

Anyone with information should contact DI Wagstaff on 020 8247 8261, or Crimestoppers in confidence 0800 555 111.
