Around 135,000 of us have signed up to take part in Veganuary this year, according to latest figures.

The annual campaign aims to encourage more of us to go vegan and help the planet by going animal free for 31 days.

Veganuary launched in the UK in 2014 and is a global charity which encourages people to try a vegan way of life at the start of the year.

Famous vegans include Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus, James Arthur, Jack Wilshire, Natalie Portman and Woody Harrelson.

Eating out is easier than ever for vegans with a number of restaurant now offering vegan dishes.

Here are just a few suggestions if you're looking for vegan-friendly places in Dorset this month and beyond.

The Stable, 7-10 Westover Road, Bournemouth

The Stable, which has branches in Bournemouth and Poole, has a whole menu dedicated to those following a vegan lifestyle this month and beyond.

Take your pick from four different vegan pizzas and two salads, plus there's even a vegan garlic bread that can be served with vegan cheese.

Mad Cucumber, 7 The Triangle, Bournemouth

This vegan lounge offers a vast selection of dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner.


According to their website "everything is made from scratch, by hand, from mainly local, seasonal and organic ingredients."

Take your pick from the likes of chestnut and mushroom bourguignon, three bean chilli and the rather unusual peanut butter and aubergine stew.

While daily specials can include nut roast, sweet potato moussaka, macaroni cheeze and more.

Ojo Rojo, 106 Commercial Road, Bournemouth

This Mexican eaterie has created a "stand alone menu for the vegan community" with dishes that are not just vegan but also gluten free.

Delights include vegan tacos with cowboy beans and jackfruit, pipian, chickpea chilaquiles plus patatas rojo and sweet potato fries with vegan chipotle mayo. The refreshing salad is also back by popular demand for Veganuary.

Co-owner and El Capitan Trevor Hill said: "We also have a selection of fresh juices and all our drinks menu has been labelled vegan so all beers and wines can easy selected for vegans."

Sukha Lounge, 706 Christchurch Road, Bournemouth

Sukha Lounge is a plant based, raw cafè based in Boscombe’s Yoga Lounge that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

You’ll be spoilt for choice with a host of tempting dishes on the menu including overnight oats, pancake stack, bento box salad, smoothies and cakes.

Cafe Boscanova, 650 Christchurch Road, Bournemouth

Voted one of the top places for vegan food in Bournemouth according to Trip Advisor, one user said it served a "really delicious vegan breakfast, nice menu for all types of grazers" while another praised its "amazing vegan brunch".

They’ve even launched a full specials board dedicated to vegan fare this month featuring items such as flatbread with shawarma marinated cauliflower, tahini ‘yoghurt,’ pomegranate, coconut bacon & mint.

Pure Fusion Food Lounge, 166 Tuckton Road, Bournemouth

This eaterie - formerly Pure Cuisine in Christchurch - serves Mediterranean vegan, vegetarian and gluten free food. 

Pure was created by Ellie Brinton a "raw food chef, juicing master, life coach and health guru". 

Fans of cooked breakfasts and Sunday roasts certainly won't miss out if these pictures are anything to go by.

You can even get 10 per cent off your food bill this month, too, by quoting Veganuary. 

Zizi, Richmond Hill, Bournemouth

The Italian restaurant chain has an entire menu for vegans and this month has introduced the new Arcobaleno pizza featuring a vegan mozzarella alternative and tomato base with pink beetroot ‘beetballs’, baby sunblush tomatoes and spinach.

Their vegan margherita pizza is so good it even picked up a gong at the PETA vegan food awards.

Other dishes on the menu include their vegan zucca pizza, vegan lentil ragu and even a dairy-free sticky chocolate and praline torte served with coconut and chocolate ripple gelato.

Handmade Burger Co, BH2, Bournemouth

If you can't resist a burger, the Handmade Burger Co in Bournemouth's BH2 complex is offering 2 for 1 on vegan mains. 

Vegan offerings on the menu include cajun vegetable and bean, veg-mex, falafel and sweet potato and bean.

Wagamama, 31 to 32 Westover Road, Bournemouth

This popular chain launched its first vegan menu in October featuring mains, sides and desserts.

Offerings include kare burosu ramen, yasai pad thai and warm chilli yasai salad.

Speaking of their menu Wagamama says: “It has been designed around the idea that meat free shouldn’t mean taste free.”
