BOURNEMOUTH University is leading the way across the conurbation in promoting its workforce to swap four wheels for pedal power.
The educational establishment has received international recognition as the first organisation in BCP to achieve the gold standard in Cycling UK’s cycle friendly employer accreditation.
Recognised for their success at a Bronze, Silver or Gold standard, organisations must meet a range of measures to demonstrate their cycle-friendliness, including communications, training and incentives for staff, and physical facilities such as secure cycle parking, showers and changing rooms.
The accreditation showed Bournemouth University demonstrated a very active commitment to improving conditions for cyclists across all sites within the university.
BU offers a cycle to work incentive scheme where staff can enjoy up to 42 per cent off the cost of a new bike and/or accessories.
Last year, BU staff cycled over 7,350 miles and exceeded their target of 500 team rides, with plans to improve this target in 2021.
