The Twin Sails Bridge, Poole experienced a technical issue on Sunday, June 20.
Onlooker Mr Forsey, said: “At about half past nine the bridge went up, it was barely halfway up and it jammed, so the cars had to be turned around.”
A BCP spokesman has since confirmed the cause: “Unfortunately the Twin Sails Bridge suffered a fault on Sunday which affected the lifting.
“The problem was due to a faulty encoder device that monitors the leaves during a lift and keeps them in synchronisation.
“Our in-house engineers attended on the day and carried out a controlled lift.
“The faulty encoder device has now been replaced and following test lifts the bridge is now operating as normal.”
