THE intervention of the culture secretary over the proposed Navitus Bay wind farm has been welcomed by a Bournemouth MP.

As reported in the Daily Echo last month, Sajid Javid, secretary of state for culture, media and sport, agreed to review the controversial plans after meeting with Bournemouth West MP Conor Burns.

Mr Javid has now written to the Planning Inspectorate’s case manager Jackie Anderson, urging her to give “full consideration” to concerns raised about the project’s possible impact on conservation and the economy.

In a letter to Mr Burns, Mr Javid said: “I’ve been lucky enough to visit the Jurassic Coast and take in its staggering natural beauty for myself.

“It would be a tragedy if future generations were denied this experience.”

Mr Burns said the intervention was a “powerful endorsement” for those campaigning against the proposal, adding: “We are making a compelling case for rejection of this project, particularly as government targets for offshore wind generation can be achieved without Navitus.”
