A YOUNG Weymouth boy is to be one of the faces of the Children in Need appeal.

Eight-year-old Charlie Vaughan is to appear in a promotional video which will air in the lead up to the charity extravaganza on November 16.

Proud parents Sian and Mark Vaughan, who own Vaughan’s Bistro at Custom House Quay, have been very supportive of their little star.

Mrs Vaughan, 41, said: “We got a call saying they wanted him to do the advert so we went up to London and they put us up in a hotel and picked him up in their car to take him to the filming. He was so excited about that.”

Charlie has previously worked on a reconstruction video for the Pride of Britain awards, which was disappointingly cut out of the actual show.

He also had a small part for a children’s geography programme on the BBC.

Mrs Vaughan, who has two other sons, Jack, 16, and Ollie, who is ten months old, said: “It was the first time he’s gone up against other children like that.

“At first I thought there would be a group of them chosen but it was just Charlie and one other girl.

“He’s done so well.”

He has performed in school plays for Holy Trinity School and was also the only primary pupil to take part in a performance at Wey Valley School and Sports College Mrs Vaughan added: “He’s quite confident like a born natural, he just loves it.”

She said Charlie was thrilled to meet Pudsey Bear and he thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Charlie has been singing and dancing since he was four-years-old and joined performing arts group Stagecoach two years ago.

Stagecoach Weymouth provides training for singing, dancing and drama to help build a child’s confidence.

They recommended Charlie for the Children in Need audition and Lindy Carr, principal of Stagecoach Weymouth, said: “Charlie is a very popular boy and you can always rely on Charlie to give a performance. If he’s got lines to learn he always learns them, he’s a professional.”
