CANDY Miller could give darts players a quarter her age a run for their money.

The 91-year-old, who first took up throwing the arrows in the early 1960s, has just been named in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest living darts player.

Speaking to the Daily Echo from her Poole home, the record-breaking great grandmother-of-four said: “I still play a good game you know. A lot of other players in the women’s league are frightened of me.

“This record is only just sinking in really, but I’m starting to feel quite proud.

“I go into these pubs with a walking stick or a Zimmer frame but I can still win a game now and again.”

Candy, who has four children who are now all pensioners, has even hit the holy grail of darts – 180 – twice in her competitive career.

She currently plays in the women’s league for Poole’s Alderney Manor Social Club, close to her Ringwood Road home.

“I remember back in 1960 I went down to Poole Quay with my husband for a quiet drink and we ran into a friend of his,” she recalled.

“My husband’s friend had his wife, Jenny Wellman, with him and she said she was putting a darts side together.

“I asked to join and that was that. I’d never played before and every time I got up to throw I’d shake like a leaf. I didn’t win a single game in that first season, but about three seasons later I’d won the league.

“I’d really like to thank my team |captain Rose Kettley for all her support. As long as I can use my legs I’ll keep on playing.”
