THE untimely death of motorcyclist David Bartholomew has devastated everyone who knew him.

And for his partner Lindsey Witcombe, every day since has brought a different struggle.

The 54-year-old father of two from Bere Regis died in a collision on the A31 in March, leaving a massive void in the lives of all who had known and loved him.

Nearly four months on from the tragedy, Lindsey, who had been with David for 15 years, can recall every heart-breaking moment about that fateful day.

“I was at work and got a phone call from a police officer who asked me if I was Lindsey Witcombe, the partner of David Bartholomew, and did he ride a Honda CBF motorcycle”, she said.

“He then asked where I was and I started to get a bit suspicious and asked why.

“I was told David had been in an accident and was a bit poorly.

“On the way to the hospital, the officer, who was incredible, said he is quite poorly, then he said told me he was very poorly and I needed to be aware this might be life changing injuries.

“The last thing he said to me before we went into Poole Hospital was that David was very, very seriously injured and he may not recover. I was just numb.”

David had suffered serious head injuries as well as a punctured lung and broken leg and doctors told the family a brain scan had revealed no activity.

Lindsey said: “We were and are completely devastated.

“His children are taking it day by day but he was the most awesome father, he was amazing.

“We just miss him so much. I’ve never met anyone who was so liked, happy and so full of fun.

“Every day brings different things.

“It is not just me and his children but his parents, and sister and his friends who have lost him.

“You keep expecting him to walk through the door or see him in a crowd.”
