CONCERNS have been raised about a powerful drain cleaner product being sold nationwide after a five-year-old suffered nasty scars.

Little Boyd James, five, hit the headlines last week when sulphuric acid dripping through his bedroom ceiling burned his face.

The One Shot drain cleaner, which also destroyed a pillow, is believed to have come from the flat above his Dorset home.

A member of staff at a local B&Q store says he was shocked to see it on sale in his store.

The employee, who asked not to be named, said: “That cannot be right, selling something so powerful.

“The label said it will dissolve rags.”

He added: “Boyd’s story was horrific to read.

“If it’s on display at B&Q people are just going to pick it up.

“I will push to try and get them to withdraw it from sale.”

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service sent two crews to the early morning incident in Blandford .

Firefighters initially thought a fire was melting something and causing it to drip through the ceiling, a spokeswoman said.

She said: “It was not that at all.

“It was just that he or she in the flat above had put drain cleaner into the sink which had somehow dripped through.”

A representative for One Shot Products, a company based in Hull, said that the drain cleaner had been on the market for more than 25 years.
