PLANS are afoot to share the path around the Civic Centre in Poole between walkers and cyclists.
Steve Tite, traffic manager for transportation services, Borough of Poole said: “The Civic Centre gyratory is a busy transport centre linking the town, Bournemouth and Poole College, Poole Park, Ashley Cross and Sandbanks and by providing a safe cycleway, we hope to encourage people to cycle.
“There is generally light pedestrian footfall on this particular path and so the chances of conflict with cyclists are very low. Nationally, research also shows that this type of shared footpath and cycleway encourages cyclists to be more considerate and travel at a safe speed.”
