DARREN Kenny claimed two silver medals and a gold at the Para-Cycling World Championships in Los Angeles.

The Verwood racer took second place in the men’s C3 3km pursuit on the second day of the championships at the velodrome in the Home Depot Center.

And Kenny followed up with gold in the C3 1km time trial as Team GB picked up six medals on day three.

The 41-year-old completed his championships with another silver medal alongside Sarah Storey and Jody Cundy in the team sprint – but it was Great Britain’s first defeat in the discipline since 2007 as China ran out winners.

Meanwhile, Corfe Mullen’s Barney Storey narrowly missed out on a gold medal alongside tandem partner Neil Fachie in the B Kilo event.

Storey and Fachie were edged out by just 0.099 of a second by fellow Brits Anthony Kappes and Craig Maclean.

Team GB topped the medal table with eight gold, seven silver and two bronze, but coach Chris Furber admitted Kenny and co had been given a “wake-up call” ahead of the London Olympics later this year.

Furber said: “It’s been a bit of a wake-up call for some riders and we’ve got to work really hard between now and the Games to stay in front where we are in front and get in front where we’re not.

“However, we are in the medal mix and that is really important because if you are in the medal mix here, you are going to be competitive in London. From that point of view (17 medals) we’ve done very well.”
