THE Society of Dorset Men has given £350 to the Dorset Youth Association (DYA), to support its work in helping local young people in need.

Founded in 1943, the DYA advises and helps those under-25 who are vulnerable, homeless or in desperate need.

Trained advisors talk to young people who need advice about a number of issues, including debt, housing, education and health, both physical and mental.

The cheque was presented by Andy Prowse, vice chairman of the Society of Dorset Men at the DYA’s advice and information centre “Routes” in North Square, Dorchester.

Many local charities and organizations have been supported by the society during 2011.

These include the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the Dorset County Hospital’s Mammography Appeal, Julia’s House at Corfe Mullen and the Dorset County Museum.

Andy said: “The society is particularly pleased to support the long-established Dorset Youth Association, so it can continue its outstanding work with local youngsters – especially in the winter.

“I had no idea so many local young people were in such need and our donation will help continue the good work.”
