Booking is essential for this walk on Saturday 21 January. Spotting a bittern is always a bit of a challenge as they are very well camouflaged, but this walk should provide your best chance of seeing one of these birds returning to its roost after a day's feeding.

Guides will also help you to look out for the bittern’s more common relatives such as Little Egrets, the dainty little white herons which can be seen here throughout the year, stirring up fish fry from the muddy bottom of the lake with their feet.

Bearded tits, which only live in reedbeds, are resident here and now is a good time to see pochards in large numbers as they spend the winter and autumn in the UK to escape the bitterly cold winter in Eastern Europe and Russia.

This walk on 21 January will take place between 2.30-4.30pm and the prices are: Members £2, Non-members £5, half-price for children. Radipole Lake is a lovely site in Weymouth where you can relax with the nature that surrounds you and enjoy walking on the paths alongside the lake.

The reserve is just five minutes from the seafront and the town centre and has easy access with firm paths suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
