AN ANGRY media student claims two years of his life have been wasted after a string of disasters with his college course.

Will Brown, 29, paid £2,000 for the first year of an interactive media course at Bournemouth and Poole College.

But after drastic changes to the course were introduced for the second year, the mature student said his coursework was lost and he was given wrong grades for his first year.

Mr Brown, from Wimborne, left the course in disgust and said he was “shocked” at the college’s behaviour.

He has even submitted a formal complaint to Ofsted over the saga.

“I would never send my children to that college,” said Mr Brown, who has now moved to Birmingham in search of work.

“I requested a certificate of achievement for completing my first year but it had no reference to the six assignments I had handed in.

“It had the wrong grades on it and I feel as if my money has just gone down the drain.”

Mr Brown said the course changed so significantly – from a media-focused course to art-based units – after the first year that just four of the 16 original students had stuck with it.

A change in tutors was also a major factor in the subsequent events, he added.

“All I want is a fair grade, the one that I worked for, the one that I paid for,” he said.

In an email to Mr Brown, the college’s Roy Winspear said the allocated grades had been based on a progress report produced by one of the course tutors last summer. No project work had been “formally presented” by Mr Brown and so staff had been unable to “assess work to the relevant units and grading criteria”, he added.

A college spokesperson added: “We are disappointed that Mr Brown feels his concerns have not been concluded to his complete satisfaction.

“We work hard to ensure that the student experience here is as good as any in the country.”
