THERE will be a chance to see original motorbikes belonging to the world’s most famous stuntman in Bournemouth this summer.

Visitors to the inaugural Battistinis California Dreamin’ Expo motorcycle show at the BIC on May 28 and 29 will be able to see an exhibition of Evel Knievel memorabilia, including bikes, leather outfits and other personal items.

The ultimate daredevil, Evel Knievel enjoyed cult status right up until his death in 2007.

His fearless stunts saw him attract huge crowds over his 25-year career – and break 37 bones.

To this day he holds the world record as the survivor of the most bones broken in a lifetime.

One of his most famous failed attempts was at Wembley Stadium in 1975, when he sustained serious injuries attempting to clear 13 buses in front of a 90,000 crowd.

But he righted the wrong a few months later when he cleared 14 buses in Ohio.

Show organiser Lorne Cheetham said: “Evel Knievel was a true showman and his drive to achieve the unachievable is a real inspiration to people, young and old.

“We are honoured to present to the public, for the first time at a UK bike show, the memorabilia of this magnificent man.

“The True Evel showcase will share some of Evel’s most cherished possessions and untold stories with the world.”

The exhibition will include the Harley Davidson jump bike which crashed in a jump over a tank of sharks, the X-2 Skycycle rocket from his failed Snake River Canyon jump and the Wheelie dragster car.

Also on show will be the unforgettable “stars and stripes” blue and white leather suits worn by Knievel, complete with capes and scuffs from his crashes.
